Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) is facing off with Republican former professional baseball player Steve Garvey in the race for the U.S. Senate seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff won the California U.S. Senate seat long held by the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Tuesday after a lopsided, low-key contest.

Garvey, a Republican, and Schiff, a Democrat, vied for the seat long held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who died in September 2023. Sen. Laphonza Butler, who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Gavin Newsom, decided not to run for it.

Democrat Adam Schiff, the California representative who rose to national prominence for leading the first Trump impeachment trial, defeated Republican challenger Steve Garvey in the race for the U.S. Senate seat once held by the late-Sen. Dianne Feinstein, according to the Associated Press.

Donald Trump has treated Schiff as a major nemesis since the Jewish Democrat led impeachment proceedings against him.

The race was largely overlooked in a year when control of the Senate will turn on a handful of competitive races.
