Four city council seats — including the mayor’s seat — are up for election in Irvine’s first contest utilizing by-district voting. Here are the initial election night results.

In California, ballots postmarked on or before Nov. 5 are counted toward the results as long as they arrive within seven days of the election. The California Secretary of State's Office is scheduled to certify the final vote on Dec. 13.

John Park, William Go, James Mai and Councilmember Mike Carroll are leading their respective races for the four district seats up for grabs on the Irvine City Council, according to early returns posted Tuesday night shortly after the close of polls.
